OMA Big Issue Street Soccer
Monday 11 October 2010
As part of our support of The Big Issue campaign through the OMA, APN were invited to take part in a fun and informal game of Street Soccer with the Big Issue Street Soccer team.
The Community Street Soccer Program uses sport as a mechanism to engage homeless, disadvantaged and marginalised people and promote social inclusion. It involves males and females, 16 years and older, or all abilities and fitness levels, getting together once a week, training and playing matches at permanent pitches located in underprivileged communities across Australia.
Many Street Soccer players face homelessness, substance abuse or mental illness and are in the process of making positive changes in their lives. Street Soccer matches involve mixed teams of four players and four substitutes playing two seven-minute halves on pitches that measure 22m x 16m. The program is being rolled out to 30 sites around Australia to change lives and build healthier communities.
